In bladder cancer (urothelial cancer), cells grow abnormally in the urinary bladder to form a tumor. Most bladder cancers start in the inner lining of the bladder, which is called the urothelium. If the tumor has spread nearby to bladder walls or lymph nodes, it's considered locally advanced. If it continued to spread outside of the bladder to other parts of the body, it's considered metastatic.
